Power Flushing for Sluggish Heating Systems
Years of black sludge sitting in radiators and pipework makes your boiler work harder for less heat. A proper power flush shifts that debris out of the system so radiators heat evenly and the boiler stops straining.
What a power flush involves
- System inspection and temperature readings taken before we start
- High-flow flushing pump connected and each radiator flushed in turn
- Cleaning chemicals circulated to break down sludge, scale and rust
- Magnetic filtration used to capture debris as it is released
- Full system rinse until the water runs clear
- Corrosion inhibitor added to protect the system going forward
- Magnetic system filter supplied and fitted on request
- Before and after temperature checks so you can see the difference
Signs your system needs flushing
- Radiators cold at the bottom and warm across the top
- Some radiators never get properly hot however long the heating runs
- Dirty black water when bleeding a radiator

Power flushing FAQs
How long does a power flush take?
- Most homes take between four and six hours depending on the number of radiators and how much sludge has built up. Larger properties or badly contaminated systems can take a full day.
Will a power flush fix my cold radiators?
- If the cold area is at the bottom of the radiators, sludge is usually the cause and a flush makes a noticeable difference. If the problem is a failed valve or pump, we will tell you that instead of selling you a flush you do not need.
Is a power flush needed before a new boiler?
- On an existing system, yes in most cases. Manufacturers require the system to be clean, and debris left in old pipework is one of the most common causes of premature failure in a brand-new boiler.
What is the difference between a power flush and a chemical flush?
- A chemical flush circulates cleaner using the existing pump and suits lightly contaminated systems. A power flush uses a dedicated high-flow pump and magnetic filtration to physically shift heavy sludge and scale.
